Inspired by our background in publishing, design, advertising
and branding, the name Blackletter is inspired by our passion for the art of storytelling.

 

In a world where your brand is a living, breathing dialogue across media platforms, we believe in the power of brand design to create a compelling narrative, activate your dialogue and inspire action.

Our Team

As an independent full-service agency, our core leadership team partners directly with our clients and personally manages initiatives from beginning to end. The four main principles provide client services as well as perform their areas of expertise, which allows us to immediately address client needs and adjust at an actionable level while truly providing brand guardianship at the highest level.

 

Our strategic partners and network allow us to scale up or down depending on the client and afford us a scaleability and level of direct interaction and expertise not often offered by the larger agency model.

Bobby Senaha

CEO

As the former Publisher of Hawaii Business (HB) magazine, Bobby cultivated strong relationships with key businesspeople in Hawaii, as well as on the mainland. His leadership successfully shepherded HB’s brand out of a down economy and into the magazine’s most profitable years. This planted seeds for the qualities that would shape Blackletter Group’s mission: the ability to be agile and creative in the pursuit of solutions and the unrelenting drive and courage to persevere in the face of adversity.

Kara Fujita Jovic

Brand Strategist & Creative Director

Kara has spent the past 12 years working in international brand strategy and design for Fortune 500 companies across Europe, Asia and North America. Leading accounts and 360-degree campaigns across touch points – packaging, advertising, digital & social media, experiential and PR. Her background also includes editorial and management work in magazines, book publishing and advertising. Having studied fashion and literature, she’s passionate about the power of design and verbal expression to create meaningful and powerful dialogue. Fluent in English and French, she’s at ease working in both languages.

Janice Silva

Experience Director

Bringing more than 25 + years of executive administration and client-service experience, Janice, “Jan,” drives the company forward with her thoughtful guidance and proactive approach to projects. Prior to joining Blackletter Group, she was executive assistant to one of Hawaii’s top lobbyist for more than 17 years as well as spent a part of her career in the banking industry working with Bank of Hawaii. In charge of operational communication with Hawaii Legislators, Honolulu City and County officials, and all staff members, Jan kept important matters on track and put vision to action.

Dena Tomlinson

Content Director

As a young girl, Dena used her knack for storytelling to entertain other children, confuse adults, and continually explain the absence of her math homework. She’s been a professional writer for the past 10 years – exploring editorial, advertorial, grant writing, and various forms of creative and visual storytelling through both digital and print. Dena enjoys a good challenge and believes in the power of thoughtful communication. She earned degrees in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Portland in Oregon, and surprised everyone by actually using her education to design a career she loves.

Lowell Burton

Web Design & Development

With nearly a decade of experience in the fields of digital marketing and analytics, Lowell has found her dream job in web design and development. She loves combining beautiful aesthetics with a responsive user experience to create websites that showcase the unique elements of each brand. She looks forward to solving web development challenges with clean code to product sites that look great AND meet the client’s functional needs. Her degree in Neuroscience has proven to be surprisingly useful in the evolving world of technology, and the application of that degree in web design allows her a level of creativity that wouldn’t have been possible behind a lab bench.

Kelii Grace

Director, DP, Editor

As an award-winning Cinematographer, Kelii has been dubbed a “visual translator” by his colleagues and clients. Keenly intuitive of client goals paired with his directorial vision, he carefully crafts stories with intention and substance. Kelii has over a decade of professional experience, shooting and editing commercial motion and still photo projects across Hawaii and North America, as well as Japan. Skilled in all things RED and Arri, Kelii is also an experienced drone pilot and operator.

Fabrice Tchékou

Lead Designer

Practicing and playing with graphic design for over a decade, Fabrice has found the balance and artistry to thrive across various mediums and engage people through numerous channels. He’s worked with companies and on projects both big and small in the areas of graphic design, web design, packaging and illustration. Fabrice’s background in Journalism, Animation and 3D-modeling has allowed him to approach design from a unique perspectives and use out-of-the-box ideas to solve problems. He truly believes design is a catalyst, communicating a brand’s story and creating a unique brand experience. In addition to design, he’s also an avid photographer and artist.

Kim Bock

Media Strategist

Kim has over 25 years of media buying and planning experience in both Hawaii and Washington, DC. She began her career at Peck, Sims Mueller in Hawaii. She then moved to the Washington, D.C. area and worked for both DDB Needham and Inter/Media in their media departments as a senior buyer/planner on a variety of accounts. In 1999, Kim returned home to Hawaii and continued her advertising career. Subsequent positions included senior buyer/planner at Loomis ISC, media supervisor at Laird Christianson Harris, media director at The Harris Agency and media director at Communications Pacific. Her responsibilities included all media research, planning and placement for a substantial list of clients. She has purchased media in 11 of the top 20 markets in the country as well as placing media in several international markets. She has multiple years of experience in fast food, banking, healthcare, health insurance, political, automotive, and visitor industry.
